One of Halifax’s premiere Christmas events, The Advent Show continues to solidify itself as one of our community’s favourite annual traditions.
For over 10 years, Judy Savoy produced benefit musicals at the grassroots level, before collaborating with Geordie Brown in 2011 and creating The Advent Show. 2017 will mark the seventh year that director and producer Geordie Brown will continue The Advent Show’s legacy of community outreach, artistic excellence, and Christmas spirit. Each year, The Advent Show grows with fresh local talent, sold-out performances, and topnotch production values including one of the most exciting theatrical lighting displays in the city. With an impressive young cast of local singers, dancers & musicians, the show features a variety of music, from pop & gospel, to classical and folk, plus all of your favourite Christmas classics.
In 2017, The Advent Show returns to the beautiful state-of-the-art SPATZ Theatre in downtown Halifax. (More about our 2017 show)

In the summer of 2011, I received a momentous phone call from Judy Savoy while I was vacationing on Cavendish Beach, Prince Edward Island. She was phoning to ask me if I was interested in collaborating with her on a new Christmas show. I immediately said ‘yes’, and have been ever grateful.
Since creating The Advent Show together, our "little show that could" has certainly grown. From a grassroots Christmas concert in a church hall, to an elaborate theatrical musical revue in a world-class venue, The Advent Show is showing no signs of slowing down.
The impact that this show has had over the years has been humbling: from the essential services that are provided to those in need in our community, to our devoted audience members leaping to their feet time and time again, to the unfailing generosity of our sponsors and donors, to the teary-eyed grandparents seeing their young loved-one perform on stage for the first time. For all those who have performed in this show over the years, knowing that we are working toward something that is far greater than ourselves has always served as constant motivation.
Through this show, I have the unique opporunity to mentor and showcase young performing artists, and also entertain and enlighten our audiences, all while raising support and awareness for those most in need in our community. I’ve felt so fortunate to return to this rewarding platform on which to create, inspire, learn, and give back, year after year.
As an artist, mentor, and fundraising professional, I am thankful for the performers and volunteers who have dedicated themselves to our causes over the years. I look forward to guiding The Advent Show toward its greatest potential in the years to come.

Why an Advent show? Christmas has always been my favourite time of year, but Advent has also taken on its own place in my life, as a necessary and vital time of preparation, waiting, and renewal. Studies show that the longer we wait for something, the far greater the reward will be in the end. Advent helps us hold on to Christmas longer.
ARK, Daily Bread Outreach and Grace Street Mission are staffed by people for whom I have untold admiration and respect. Dorothy and Emily - the ARK Angels, Sister Jovita, Deacon Art, & Brother Grant at Daily Bread, Paul at Grace Street Mission. I love them all. They have taught me so much. I also applaud the people whom they serve: I have met and talked with so many whose lives have been filled with pain and loss, but who can still smile, laugh and live in hope. They inspire me.
It is our hope that as our audience, you not only enjoy this show, but that you truly experience something meaningful that you can take away with you. May God bless you richly, as you wait. Have a blessed Advent and a truly joyful Christmas.

This show would not be possible without the support of a hard-working team of incredible volunteers. We would like to thank all who have donated their time to this show and its causes over the years, especially: Tanya Thomson, Farris MacPherson, and Michael Dunn.
