Claire Ahern

Claire Ahern

Flute - Claire Ahern has been playing flute for 11 years, and is a soon-to-be graduate from Dalhousie's Fountain School of Performing Arts. Claire is honoured to be the recipient of various music scholarships and awards, including receiving funding from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust. In the summer of 2015, Claire won first place in regional and provincial music festivals and represented Nova Scotia in the woodwind category of the National Music Festival. She is a two-time winner of the Fountain School's Concerto Night Competition, and performed as a soloist with the Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra in 2016 and 2017. In addition to being an avid performer Claire is also an enthusiastic teacher, who loves coaching music students and is currently accepting students to expand her private studio. 

 
Tobias Allen, Singer/Narrator, The Advent Show 2017

Tobias Allen

Singer / Narrator - Tobias Allen is a 10-year-old homeschooler who is passionate about music and performing. He enjoys playing violin but is currently more focused on piano and vocal. He has had several opportunities over the years to perform at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts playing piano and violin. He is in his second season with the Capella Regalis Men and Boys Choir, and participated in their Summer 2017 Tour around Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, as well as in the recording session of the groups' second CD to be released this Christmas. This is Tobias’ debut with The Advent Show.

 
Geordie Brown, The Advent Show 2015

Geordie Brown

Director / Piano / Cast - From Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Mr. Brown is an award-winning singer, film/stage actor, and pianist. As a Producer/Director, Geordie has just finished a successful 2-month run of his production of Stan Rogers: A Matter of Heart at Neptune Theatre in Halifax, in which he also performed. Brown directed the Atlantic Canadian premiere of Academy-Award-Winners Benj Pasek & Justin Paul's EDGES at the 2009 Atlantic Fringe (Fringe Hit Winner), and collaborated with Judy Savoy for many years on the creation of The Advent Show. A finalist in David Foster's Star Search Atlantic singing competition, Geordie has portrayed numerous musical roles on stage with his "powerful voice" (Opera Canada), including productions at Neptune Theatre, the Chester Playhouse, the Spatz Theatre, the Dalhousie Opera, and The Guild in Charlottetown. Geordie has appeared in numerous TV/Film productions, including The Tenth Circle with Kelly Preston, and Stephen King's Bag of Bones with Anika Noni Rose and Pierce Brosnan. Geordie recently released his debut album, a live recording from his original one-man show The Songs of The Rat Pack, which had a sold-out run at Neptune Theatre in 2017. Geordie has been a Cathedral Musician at St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica for over 10 years. He's looking forward to once again singing this year as soloist/leader-of-song at the cathedral's 8:00pm Christmas Eve Mass. www.geordiebrown.com

 
Minuet Charron, Dancer, The Advent Show 2017

Minuet Charron

Dancer - Minuet Charron is 13 years old and has been dancing since she was 3. She recently moved to Halifax from Cape Breton, where she trained with Northside Dance and Cape Breton School of the Arts. Now she is in the Professional Program at the Maritime Conservatory of Dance and training with Votive Dance through the Jazz Initiative Scholarship Program. In 2015 and 2016 she played the role of Young Clara in The Nutcracker at the Savoy Theatre. Minuet also enjoys singing, acting, reading, drawing and cosplaying.

 
Fiona Clancey, The Advent Show

Fiona Clancey

Singer  - Fiona Clancey is 17 years old and from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. In 2013, she competed and placed first in Canada Day Idol in Dartmouth. She has been a member of the St. Peter's Players since she was 6, performing in musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar. She was also a member of Dartmouth Players, starring in musicals such as Hairspray. She is a longtime member of the Dartmouth All-City Girls Choir. She is also involved in the award-winning theatre group Project ARC. In 2016, Fiona starred as Jack in the HRM Student Run Musical "Into the Woods". She has been playing piano for 6 years and has also picked up the guitar. Additionally, Fiona has trained in Musical Theatre at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts. Fiona is thrilled to be returning for her third year of the Advent Show.

 
Jennifer Cleveland, Singer/Vocal Coach, The Advent Show 2017

Jennifer Cleveland

Singer / Vocal Coach - Hailed for her “warm, resonant tone” and “versatility over many genres,” lyric mezzo-soprano Jennifer Cleveland has delighted audiences on the theatre stage and at private functions alike. An artistically diverse soloist and accomplished music educator, Jennifer holds three degrees in her field, most recently completing her Masters in Music Education at Acadia University in 2017. 

In addition to her stage work, Jennifer works as a full-time music specialist with the Halifax Regional School Board and Halifax All-City Music. In the Spring of 2017, she was awarded the National Band Aid Grant for $10,000 in support of her music program at Fairview Heights Elementary School. She also serves as Social Media Manager on the Board of Directors for Orff Nova Scotia, where she administrates professional development opportunities for music educators in the Atlantic provinces and beyond. 

She is thrilled to be back with the cast of “The Advent Show” in an enhanced role this season.

 
Charlie Fournier, The Advent Show

Charlie Fournier

Narrator / Singer  - Charlie is a 12-year-old grade seven student in Halifax. Charlie is a passionate sailor and spends his summers racing the coasts of Nova Scotia. He studies violin with Christy Hodder and is a member of the Nova Scotia Youth Ambassadors. This is Charlie’s fourth year in The Advent Show and he could not be more excited to be back.

 
Ellen Gibling, Harp, The Advent Show 2017

Ellen Gibling

Harp - Ellen Gibling obtained her performance degree at McGill University in 2009, with harpist Jennifer Swartz. Other studies have included touring with National Youth Orchestra of Canada, studying improvisation in Halifax's Creative Music Workshop, and exploring Irish traditional music in masterclasses and workshops. Ellen is currently an active and versatile performer in Halifax, as well as teaching at the Conservatory and at Acadia University. Current projects include Conundrum, a classical flute and harp duo with Jack Chen, Ragged Robin, an Irish traditional duo with Erin Dempsey, and New Hermitage, an improvisation ensemble under the direction of Andrew MacKelvie. Ragged Robin's debut album, "Deep in the Tangled Wood", is nominated for Music Nova Scotia's Traditional Album of the Year, 2017. Dante Kierstead, Drums, The Advent Show 2017

Dante Kierstead

Drums - Dante Kierstead is a twelve year old, grade seven student from Halifax, NS.  He started his musical journey at age three by immersing himself in The Beatles and playing drums.  Dante’s first spontaneous performance was with a local New Orleans band on Bourbon St. at the age of five. Since the age of nine, he has participated in Long & McQuade’s drum & junior summer rock camps.  This past summer, he attended an Advanced Drum Camp at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University.  Dante currently plays snare drum for the Grade 5 Dartmouth & District Pipe Band. He is also a member of the Halifax All-City Music percussion ensemble.  Dante enjoys travelling, playing sports and reading.

 
Molly Kirk

Molly Kirk

Singer / Saxophone - Molly Kirk is from Waverley Nova Scotia. Molly is fourteen years old and will be completing another successful year at Bedford Academy in the ninth grade. Molly began her journey in music at the tender age of three; she continues to perform at her school as a solo performer and member of her School Choir, and Rock Band. This is Molly’s fifth year studying saxophone through Bedford Academy’s Fine Arts program. Molly has received several Young Performance Awards, and continues to study piano, voice, saxophone and guitar. In 2014, Molly competed locally and placed 2nd in Canada Day Idol. She has appeared on Christmas Daddies 2016 where she sang and played Saxophone. Molly has been busy writing songs with a local song writer and producer and plans to record her first few tracks in the coming months. Molly was thrilled to receive a Young Artist Grant the last two years, and is excited to be returning to the 2017 production of The Advent Show.

Etc: As a proud Maritimer, I'm so happy to be performing again on the East Coast. I'm also a passionate yoga instructor, and would like to thank my amazing family for supporting me in everything I do. Love & good vibes to all beings. 

 
Adam LeBlanc, Dancer, The Advent Show 2017

Adam LeBlanc

Dancer - Originally from New Brunswick, and a graduate of Mount Allison University, Adam moved to Halifax to further his music career. He is currently a music teacher at the Dartmouth Long & McQuade Music Education Centre. He recently performed in Geordie Brown's Production of Stan Rogers: A Matter of Heart at Neptune Theatre. He was also a violinist in Broadway Atlantic’s production of The Sound of Music, and has performed and taught at many festivals throughout the Maritimes. Adam performed in The Advent Show in 2015, and is so happy to be back this year with this wonderful cast.

Stage Manager - After working on The Advent Show for the past two years, Olivia is thrilled to be a part of such a talented team for this year's show. Olivia received her B.A. in Technical Scenography from Dalhousie University's Theatre department. Frantiska Nutarova

Dancer - Frantiska Nutarova is a 14 year old from Halifax, NS. She began dance at age seven and is now training in many different styles including ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and highland dance. Frantiska trains at Elle Dance Academy and Celtic Rhythm Dance Studio. She competes with her dancing and has received many titles, trophies and medals for her success. She is an active member of Amethyst Scottish Dancers of Nova Scotia, a performance group. Frantiska has performed in the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo for last 5 years as a highland dancer. She is very fortunate to be travelling to Florida with her highland dance studio this fall, to perform at Disney. She is very passionate about her dance and is thrilled to perform in the 2017 edition of The Advent Show.

Greg Palmer

Dancer - Theatre: 'Enjorlas' in Les Miserables, 'Peter Pan' in Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, Children of Eden (Stage Prophets); Oklahoma (QAAW); Footloose (Western Kings High); Nutcracker (Cadance). Training: George Brown Dance, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Ballet Jorgen, Cadance Academy, Toronto Dance Theatre, Annapolis Valley Honour Choir. Upcoming: Cinderella (QAAW); Mary Poppins - Choreographer (Stage Prophets). Other: Currently in 3rd year at Dalhousie University in a BSc. in Biology and Psychology. Amelia Parker, Dancer / Violin, The Advent Show 2017

Amelia Parker

Dancer / Violin - Amelia Parker is 12 years old and lives in Pictou County.  At the age of 6 she began fiddle lessons with the late Fleur Mainville and has never looked back. She placed first in her age category at the Maritime Fiddle Festival in 2017. She performs in her community and beyond for fundraisers, busks at the New Glasgow Farmers Market and had the honor of playing for celebrity chef Jamie Oliver in 2015. Her other musical interests include playing clarinet in the West Pictou Junior band , voice and piano. She also has a love for highland and step dance .She recently danced at Walt Disney World with her dance school as part of the International Gathering of Scottish Highland Dance.

 
Patrick Simms, Singer, The Advent Show 2017

Patrick Simms

Singer - Having studied Opera at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Patrick worked under the direction of Gregory Servant, and was a recipient of a Nova Scotia Talent Trust scholarship and the Nova Voce Male Voice scholarship. At Dalhousie, Patrick played Rob Ford in a modern short Canadian Opera in the Shadow of Rob Ford, and Pirelli in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. Patrick has appeared as Sam in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, Lippo in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, and Orpheus in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld all with Halifax Summer Opera Festival. Having performed in The Advent Show for 3 years from 2013-2015, Patrick is thrilled to return to perform in this year's show, with this wonderful cast.

 
Abigail Sinclair, Singer, The Advent Show 2017

Abigail Sinclair

Singer - Soprano Abigail Sinclair studies voice with Paula Phillips at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is the 2016 and 2017 recipient of the Ifan Williams Sr. Trophy and the Opera Nova Scotia Voice Scholarship. Abigail is also the winner of the 2016 provincial Musical Theatre class at the Kiwanis Music Festival. She was a participant in the Halifax Summer Opera Festival 2016 season, as the Novizia in Puccini's Suor Angelica, and Emmie in the Festival's 2017 production of Albert Herring, by Benjamin Britten. She is in her final year of High School, and hopes to study vocal performance next year. Abigail is absolutely delighted to be joining the cast of The Advent Show.

 
Angus Stevens

Angus Stevens

Singer - Angus Stevens is from Port Medway Nova Scotia. Angus has been singing and playing music since age 5 and wants to pursue musical theatre as a career following his graduation in 2018. Angus is in grade 12 and is the Student Representative Councils Co-President for this school year. He can be found practicing piano or singing to prepare for the Liverpool annual Music Festival. Angus has went to compete at the National Music Festival in Ottawa this past summer for Musical Theatre and has won various awards for singing, voice and piano. This is Angus’ first year with The Advent Show and he is very excited to be a part of such an amazing cast!

 
Phineas Stewart

Phineas Stewart

Violin - Phineas Stewart has been playing the violin since he was six years old, when he first started lessons with Kirsty Money. Currently in grade 10 at Citadel High School, he is a member of the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, and on the weekends can be found busking at the Halifax Seaport Market or singing with Capella Regalis. Phineas devotes his remaining leisure hours watching hockey (go Senators!) and reading Tolkien, and has recently taken up fencing.
